Kai Yan's Wrath: Master is a challenge quest centered on a boss battle with Kai Yan, unlocked upon the completion of Chapter 10 and any Advanced Dragon Trial at standard difficulty, and meeting the minimum might requirement of 34,000.
- Rewards from Master difficulty include Rebellious One's Arrogance and small amounts of Uprooting One's Mask Fragment, which can be used to upgrade 6 shadow Agito weapons past the fourth unbind level, as well as allowing for refinement, granting additional strength, new abilities, and might.
- Additionally, clearing Master difficulty for the first time rewards the player with sufficient amount of Rebellious One's Arrogance to fully upgrade an Agito weapon.
- Weekly bonuses from clearing the Master difficulty also provide a large amount of Rebellious One's Arrogance.
Stat and Equipment Requirements[ | ]
HP[ | ]
HP isn't too much of a concern if adventurers are properly built with ideal equipment and maxed-out augments, and a healer is used, which is highly recommended.
- It's strongly suggested to max out your Shadow Tree at level 25 before attempting this quest.
Weapons[ | ]
For Master, at a minimum, adventurers should be equipped with at least a 6 Agito weapon that's unbound 4 times. This includes even supportive role adventurers as the quest difficulty is extremely high.

Dragons[ | ]
Everyone should ideally be equipped with a max-unbound 5 Shadow-attuned dragon for Master.
- Although it is possible to clear comfortably with a non-max-unbound Fatalis, you may run into issues with joining or hosting rooms in public co-op due to your reduced might, if you have not maximized your Agito weapon's upgrades yet.

Wyrmprints[ | ]
Wyrmprints[ | ]
All adventurers should equip their standard wyrmprints.
In compositions with Patia (or her shared skill), Cleo, and/or Grace, adventurers may see benefit from running Strength Doublebuff wyrmprints such as Brothers in Arms or Sisters of the Anvil for offense, and Healing Doublebuff wyrmprints such as The Dragon Smiths or Odd Sparrows for survivability, due to the very high frequency of defense buffs.
Party Roles[ | ]
DPS[ | ]
These units will be doing the majority of the DPS.
- They can fill 3 team slots in a 3DPS composition, and leave the last slot for Cleo or Grace.
- They can also fill all 4 if two of the slots are taken up by Patias if everyone is equipped with Odd Sparrows.
- Alternatively, with a single Patia, they can also fill all 4 if planning to speedrun a clear within 2 minutes, skipping all unavoidable attacks by sheer DPS with a Patia focused on buffing with Azazel, or bogging on break with a bog-inflicting dragon such as Leviathan.
Don't bring more than one Ieyasu, two Patias, or all Gala Cleos in the whole composition, due to bleeding or buff zone stacking limits, exposing their relatively low personal DPS.
The list is split into two halves: one containing the "meta" DPS which are highly popular in public rooms due to their DPS and ease of use, the other containing other viable adventurers that are capable of clearing within 4 minutes, and may be considered for private rooms, or if extremely well-geared.

Attacks and Patterns[ | ]
On Adamantine Shield[ | ]
Adamantine Shield is a buff that renders Kai Yan immune to afflictions, creates a barrier around him, and will regenerate the barrier if it is destroyed, provided the buff is still active.
- Since this is a buff, it can be removed by a Dispel effect. Doing so will also instantly remove the barrier if it is up.
- If the barrier is hit by an adventurer, Kai Yan will take no damage, but the adventurer will receive a fixed 200 HP of damage in the Master difficulty.
- The barrier can withstand 60 hits before breaking.
- In the Master difficulty, every time Kai Yan produces a shield, he also produces an additional buff that has to be dispelled first.
Hence, at least two adventurers should be able to dispel ideally. Innate dispels are strongly preferred, but any adventurer can borrow Ranzal's Tornado BashLv. 1: Deals 4 hits of 468% wind damage to surrounding enemies and draws them toward the user for 0.5 seconds. [2805 SP]
Lv. 2: Deals 4 hits of 520% wind damage to surrounding enemies and draws them toward the user for 0.5 seconds. [2805 SP]
Lv. 3: Deals 4 hits of 578% wind damage to surrounding enemies and draws them toward the user for 0.5 seconds. [2805 SP]
Lv. 4: Deals 4 hits of 722.8% wind damage to surrounding enemies and draws them toward the user for 0.5 seconds, dispels one buff from each enemy, and inflicts poison for 15 seconds - dealing 58.2% damage every 2.9 seconds - with 120% chance. [2805 SP] if it's at level 4; it provides a skill-based dispel that works anywhere on anyone, with a very low skill cost of 3 points.
The two healers have different dispel speeds and requirements.
- Cleo requires the use of Elder CureLv. 1: Restores HP to all allies with 72% Recovery Potency, and increases the entire team's strength by 8% for 60 seconds. This strength increase will not stack. [5916 SP]
Lv. 2: Restores HP to all allies with 90% Recovery Potency, removes paralysis, and increases the entire team's strength by 10% for 60 seconds. This strength increase will not stack. [5916 SP]
Lv. 3: Restores HP to all allies with 108% Recovery Potency, removes paralysis, and increases the entire team's strength by 15% for 60 seconds. This strength increase will not stack. [5916 SP]
Lv. 4: Restores HP to all allies with 130% Recovery Potency, removes paralysis, and increases the entire team's strength by 15% for 60 seconds. This strength increase will not stack. [5916 SP] to activate Dispel Strike, but her dispel is fast both charging and animation-wise, and it is possible to save this dispel just in case, as Cleo also heals with her second skill, Ancient AegisLv. 1: Increases the entire team's defense by 15% for 15 seconds. [8534 SP]
Lv. 2: Increases the entire team's defense by 20% for 15 seconds. [8534 SP]
Lv. 3: Increases the entire team's defense by 25% for 15 seconds, and gradually recovers their HP for 15 seconds, healing with 35% Recovery Potency every 2.9 seconds. [8534 SP], and she can maintain the regen indefinitely with sufficient amounts of Buff Time boosts. - Grace does not require any pre-setup, but her force strike charges at a glacial pace, making pre-loading dispels tricky in high-intensity situations, as you tend to need to dispel twice in a row.
On Battleground[ | ]
Battleground is a special effect that creates a field around the enemy. Enemies in this zone will take 2x damage, while adventurers will take 1.5x damage.
All adventurers should stay within the Battleground area to maximize DPS. No unavoidable attack from Kai Yan will one-shot any adventurer that is properly following gameplay instructions from full HP even if you're within the Battleground area, so don't worry too much about it under most circumstances.
Note: This is based on a run that can last about 5-6 minutes, suitable as a ballpark range for a newcomer clear. Some moves may be skipped or shortened if teamwide DPS is higher.
Opening Blast[ | ]
This is the fight's initial "HP check" blast.
- Most adventurers should stay put to reduce the damage taken, but adventurers that have their DPS improve at low HP should immediately get close to Kai Yan so that they take increased damage from the opening blast.
- Cleo should use Ancient AegisLv.
[8534 SP] to reduce the damage taken. - Grace with two sources of Skill Prep +50%Fills 50% of skill gauges at the start of quests. equipped from wyrmprints should use Sorrow's RequiemLv. 1: If the user's HP is below 40% of max HP when using this skill, increases the entire team's defense by 20% for 15 seconds.
If the user's HP is above or equal to 40% of max HP, reduces their HP to 30% of max HP and grants the entire team a "Life Shield" that nullifies damage equal to the amount of HP lost by the user when using this skill. This shield can stack with ordinary shields. This Life Shield caps at 70% of the user's max HP. [5916 SP]
Lv. 2: If the user's HP is below 40% of max HP when using this skill, increases the entire team's defense by 25% for 15 seconds.
[5916 SP]
Lv. 3: If the user's HP is below 40% of max HP when using this skill, increases the entire team's defense by 30% for 15 seconds.
[5916 SP] to grant everyone a Life Shield to mitigate the damage entirely.- If the composition is composed entirely of either Bellinas or Veronicas, Grace can opt to not life shield anyone until the opening blast hits, to increase their DPS, at the expense of some initial life shield HP. Furthermore, Veronica cannot drop herself to 30% HP to trigger Last Destruction after this point since life shields are expected to remain in play for the remainder of the quest.
- Afterwards, in a non-low HP composition, if possible, heal it back up ASAP to restore HP conditional abilities. Ancient Aegis will provide HP Regen healing, but one may opt to run other skills to make it go a bit faster.
- Shared skills can help with further mitigation and/or healing.
Afterwards, DPS adventurers should move towards Kai Yan.
Charge[ | ]
Kai Yan will charge towards the unit at the farthest distance. The healer should bait this, and all adventurers should roll towards Kai Yan's destination, or iframe it with a skill.
Claw Swipes[ | ]
Kai Yan will perform four (sometimes two, if DPS is very high) claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.
- Kai Yan will retarget on the closest adventurer at the time of the third swipe.
- The blind zone varies with each swipe.
Mini Universal Annihilation[ | ]
Purple marker attack covering the Battleground. Leave the Battleground area.
- Bellina (with any dragon with dragondrive, with Andromeda if out of dragondrive) and Veronica (if equipped with Andromeda), and anyone with Patia's stacked defense buffs can stay within the Battleground and continue DPSing as normal if they're in dragondrive (applicable to Bellina only, if the equipped dragon is not Andromeda) and their life shields are at least 75% full.
Adamantine Shield[ | ]
Kai Yan will spawn two purple markers, covering the entire arena. Neither marker inflicts damage, but they carry severe debuff effects.
- The inner area, within the Battleground, inflicts Strength Down -50% to everyone within the area.
- The outer area, outside the Battleground, inflicts Skill Suppression, emptying out all skill gauges while it lasts.
Generally, it is a good idea to stay within the Battleground as Strength Down is a minor inconvenience, while Skill Suppression can cause severe issues.
An Adamantine Shield will spawn along with a Strength buff once the markers hit. Dispel both of them ASAP.
- Gala Alexes will have to wait for the buff icon to show up before attempting to dispel. Other dispellers may preload their dispels.
Satellite Chasers[ | ]
4 purple chaser markers spawn that track each adventurer, inflicting damage on hit, and also leaves a satellite on the ground for the rest of the quest that also inflicts damage on contact.
All adventurers should spread out, go towards the edge of the map, outside the Battleground. Avoid overlapping, and immediately roll inwards towards Kai Yan, back into the Battleground, once the attack hits.
- Avoid placing these satellites along the top edge of the map - that's where Kai Yan throws adventurers to. If there are satellites there, these adventurers will take damage twice.
- Note that the healer should not roll into the Battleground - they should simply make sure they aren't in contact with any other satellite, and stay far away from Kai Yan, in preparation for the next attack.
- DPS adventurers that aren't Bellina might want to save their skills in preparation for the next attack.
Crushing Cataclysm[ | ]
Kai Yan will grab the farthest adventurer, determined at the time when Kai Yan starts walking towards the center of the map, and trap them. If the purple marker fills up, everyone caught up in the area will take lethal damage that cannot be mitigated.
- The healer should try to bait this, otherwise the DPS check is extremely tough.
Supreme Spheres[ | ]
Kai Yan will spawn six Supreme Spheres that slowly move towards Kai Yan. If they make contact towards Kai Yan, they grant Kai Yan buffs, and also give him Adamantine Shield.
- The healer should get close to Kai Yan and be prepared to bait Kai Yan's charges towards the lower-left.
- DPS adventurers should immediately destroy the lower-left sphere so that the path is clear for baiting.
- DPS adventurers should not stand too close to Kai Yan to avoid stealing bait.
- Gala Cleo's Ancient RayLv. 1: Deals 1 hit of 88% and 1 hit of 204% shadow damage to multiple targets and enemies near those targets, and activates "Skill Shift" if the attack connects.
Initially, this skill will target three enemies. Phase II will target four enemies, while Phase III will target five enemies.
Targets will be chosen by their proximity to the user (targets the closest enemies), and if the number of enemies available to target is fewer than the skill's number of hits, this selection process will be repeated for the remaining hits. [2814 SP]
Lv. 2: Deals 1 hit of 88% and 1 hit of 233% shadow damage to multiple targets and enemies near those targets, and activates "Skill Shift" if the attack connects.

Charge x4[ | ]
Kai Yan will charge towards the nearest adventurer four times in a row. While the healer is busy baiting Kai Yan, the other DPSes should destroy the spheres ASAP.
- Staying within the Battleground can improve Gala Cleo's Ancient RayLv. 1: Deals 1 hit of 88% and 1 hit of 204% shadow damage to multiple targets and enemies near those targets, and activates "Skill Shift" if the attack connects.

Unbreakable Satellites[ | ]
Kai Yan will spawn a purple ring outside the Battleground area, creating many Unbreakable Satellites which inflict Blindness on contact. Stay inside the Battleground area.
Universal Annihilation (Stack Version)[ | ]
Unavoidable map-wide attack. The marker within the Battleground area is a stack marker, and the damage dealt if everyone is within the stack marker is significantly reduced compared to being outside of it. Unbreakable Satellites will also respawn.
Kai Yan will also immediately spawn an Adamantine Shield and a Strength Up buff. Dispel them ASAP.
- If shapeshift is available and you are not using Fatalis, shapeshift now and dragon tank the attack.
- Otherwise, stay within the Battleground area, and if possible, use defense buffs to reduce the oncoming damage.
Mini Universal Annihilation[ | ]
Purple marker attack covering the Battleground. Unbreakable Satellites will also respawn.
If shapeshift is available and you are not using Fatalis, shapeshift now and dragon tank the attack. Otherwise, leave the Battleground area.
- Make sure to not accidentally hit an Unbreakable Satellite; move along their path! There should be two gaps where you can move safely in.
Claw Swipes[ | ]
Kai Yan will perform three claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.
- Unlike other instances, he will perform a third swipe, indicated by a "!!" on his head. This time, as it is a purple marker attack, the attack zone is now marked.
- The blind zone in this case is the front area of him.
Throw Adventurer[ | ]
Kai Yan picks up the furthest adventurer and throws them away, causing unavoidable damage to the adventurer, and also avoidable damage to anyone caught in the path. There's nothing the targeted adventurer can do, but others should try to avoid being hit.
Claw Swipes[ | ]
Kai Yan performs two claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.

Afterwards, the healer should stay far away from Kai Yan to bait the next attack.
DPS adventurers that aren't Bellina might want to save their skills in preparation for the next attack.
Crushing Cataclysm[ | ]
Sometimes, this instance of Crushing Cataclysm may not have an attackable weak point due to a game bug. If this happens, abandon the trapped adventurer, as losing one adventurer is highly preferable to wiping out here, at a point very close to victory.
