Banner Top Kai Yan's Wrath Master

Kai Yan's Wrath: Master is a challenge quest centered on a boss battle with Kai Yan, unlocked upon the completion of Chapter 10 and any Advanced Dragon Trial at standard difficulty, and meeting the minimum might requirement of 34,000.

  • Rewards from Master difficulty include 201017043 Rebellious One's Arrogance and small amounts of 201017042 Uprooting One's Mask Fragment, which can be used to upgrade 6 Icon Rarity 6 shadow Agito weapons past the fourth unbind level, as well as allowing for refinement, granting additional strength, new abilities, and might.
  • Additionally, clearing Master difficulty for the first time rewards the player with sufficient amount of 201017043 Rebellious One's Arrogance to fully upgrade an Agito weapon.
  • Weekly bonuses from clearing the Master difficulty also provide a large amount of 201017043 Rebellious One's Arrogance.

Stat and Equipment Requirements[ | ]

HP[ | ]

HP isn't too much of a concern if adventurers are properly built with ideal equipment and maxed-out augments, and a healer is used, which is highly recommended.

  • It's strongly suggested to max out your TW02 102305 IMG 01 01 Shadow Tree at level 25 before attempting this quest.

Weapons[ | ]

For Master, at a minimum, adventurers should be equipped with at least a 6 Icon Rarity 6 Agito weapon that's unbound 4 times. This includes even supportive role adventurers as the quest difficulty is extremely high.

Dragons[ | ]

Everyone should ideally be equipped with a max-unbound 5 Icon Rarity 5 Shadow-attuned dragon for Master.

  • Although it is possible to clear comfortably with a non-max-unbound 210123 01 Fatalis, you may run into issues with joining or hosting rooms in public co-op due to your reduced might, if you have not maximized your Agito weapon's upgrades yet.

DPS - Most DPS adventurers use standard DPS dragons.
  • Gala Cat Sith can run out of skill damage buffs on Gala Alex due to her very high skill usage frequency versus the quest's average duration in a non-speedrun composition, and always runs out on Summer Patia because she cannot keep a combo. Use a different dragon for them in these compositions (all compositions for Summer Patia) (detailed later).
    • For Gala Alex, it is possible to delay the bottoming out of buffs by having the healer or a Patia carry 110337 03 r05 Yukata Cassandra's Icon Skill 148 Goldfish of the HereafterLv. 1: Restores HP to all teammates with 58% Recovery Potency and grants all teammates the "Fluorescent Fish" effect for 30 seconds. • Fatalis automatically inflicts Affliction curse large icon Curse that never expires upon exiting shapeshift. Adventurers with Fatalis equipped will have to touch one of Kai Yan's Unbreakable Satellites to receive Affliction blindness large icon Blindness, which overwrites it, should you have used his shapeshift (which isn't recommended).
    • This property makes Fatalis a bit annoying to use on Forte, as she wants to shift a lot, but will need to repeatedly re-Blind herself every time she exits shapeshift.
    • Any other adventurers that have Icon Ability 1030005 Blindness Res +100%Reduces susceptibility to blindness by 100%. will not be able to dragon tank unavoidable attacks without having the healer or a Patia carry 110043 01 r05 Hildegarde's Icon Skill 029 Radiant SaviorLv. 1: Restores HP to all allies with 72% Recovery Potency, and increases the entire team's strength by 8% for 60 seconds. Low-HP "Enmity" DPS - These adventurers (commonly known as "Enmity" adventurers) gain much higher DPS when at low HP.
  • Gala Cat Sith can run out of skill damage buffs on Bellina due to her very high skill usage frequency versus the quest's average duration in a non-speedrun composition. Use a different dragon for her in these compositions (detailed later).
  • Andromeda requires the adventurer to stay at 30% HP or below to gain most of her strength boost and her defense boost. She ends up having 80% strength at max potential, same as Fatalis, though without the Curse caveat.
    • Andromeda is likely ideal for a Bellina, who can damage herself to meet the threshold. Bellina's high defense while in dragondrive, combined with Andromeda's defense (and possibly also Grace's life shields) makes her incredibly tanky.
    • The extra defense could theoretically provide additional safety for Veronica, too. However, note that Veronica's self-damage from Icon Skill 040 GespenstLv. 1: Deals 3 hits of 269% and 1 hit of 337% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 3 hits of 605.25% and 1 hit of 758.25% shadow damage total. [3291 SP]

Lv. 2: Deals 3 hits of 299% and 1 hit of 373% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 3 hits of 672.75% and 1 hit of 839.25% shadow damage total. [3291 SP]

Lv. 3: Deals 3 hits of 332% and 1 hit of 415% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Damage will be increased as the user's HP decreases, up to 3 hits of 747% and 1 hit of 933.75% shadow damage total. [3291 SP]

Lv. 4: Deals 3 hits of 597% and 1 hit of 686% shadow damage to the target and nearby enemies. Poisoned foes take 3 hits of 716.4% and 1 hit of 823.2% shadow damage instead. The lower the user's HP, the more damage this skill deals. This increase caps at 3 hits of 895.5% and 1 hit of 1029% shadow damage. For poisoned foes the cap is instead 3 hits of 1074.6% and 1 hit of 1234.8% shadow damage.

If the user's HP is above or equal to 50% of max HP, consumes 10% of max HP to fill this skill's skill gauge by 20%. [3291 SP]
can only bring her down to 40% HP by itself, meaning she has to intentionally take a hit to get to 30% HP. She also has to avoid her Icon Skill 041 NosferatuLv. 1: Deals 3 hits of 292% shadow damage to surrounding enemies and restores the user's HP by 5% of the damage inflicted. This recovery caps at 5% of the user's HP per hit. [6186 SP]

Lv. 2: Deals 3 hits of 307% shadow damage to surrounding enemies and restores the user's HP by 5% of the damage inflicted. This recovery caps at 5% of the user's HP per hit. [6186 SP]

Lv. 3: Deals 3 hits of 440% shadow damage to surrounding enemies and restores the user's HP by 8% of the damage inflicted. This recovery caps at 7.7% of the user's HP per hit. [6186 SP]
's healing to remain under the 30% HP threshold. It's usually better for Veronica to use a different dragon with less finagling needed, such as Shinobi.
    • Bellina doesn't have to worry about this Curse at all - using Dragondrive will not trigger it.

Low Skill Damage DPS - Linnea has little skill damage, so dragons that grant massive bonuses to skill damage as a primary source of DPS should be avoided.
  • Fatalis automatically inflicts Affliction curse large icon Curse that never expires upon exiting shapeshift. Normally, adventurers could remove it if they touch one of Kai Yan's Unbreakable Satellites to receive Affliction blindness large icon Blindness, which overwrites it. However, since Linnea has Icon Ability 1030005 Blindness Res +100%Reduces susceptibility to blindness by 100%., she can't do that. Therefore, she would not be able to dragon tank unavoidable attacks without having the healer or a Patia carry 110043 01 r05 Hildegarde's Icon Skill 029 Radiant SaviorLv. 1: Restores HP to all allies with 72% Recovery Potency, and increases the entire team's strength by 8% for 60 seconds. The Belle Healer - As a traditional healer in a high-DPS-requirement quest, Cleo can either opt for buff frequency (with Azazel), damage output (using non-Skill Damage DPS dragons), or healing output (with HP dragons, not really optimal).
  • 210094 01 Pop-Star Siren isn't as suitable in this quest due to the low amounts of dragon gauge gain, but can work with a very high amount of Dragon Haste abilities, co-abilities, and chain co-abilities, as well as 100010 04 r05 Gala Mym's Icon Skill 003 Dragon ClawLv. 1: Deals 3 hits of 622.5% flame damage to enemies directly ahead, increases the user's strength by 20% for 10 seconds, and raises the dragon gauge by 5% if the attack connects. Life Shield Lady - Grace really wants HP dragons above all else to maximize her life shields, so her choices are much more limited than standard healers.

Wyrmprints[ | ]

Wyrmprints[ | ]

All adventurers should equip their standard wyrmprints.

In compositions with 110335 01 r04 Patia (or her shared skill), 100004 01 r04 Cleo, and/or 110059 01 r05 Grace, adventurers may see benefit from running Strength Doublebuff wyrmprints such as 400402 01 Brothers in Arms or 400049 01 Sisters of the Anvil for offense, and Healing Doublebuff wyrmprints such as 400245 01 The Dragon Smiths or 400385 01 Odd Sparrows for survivability, due to the very high frequency of defense buffs.

Party Roles[ | ]

DPS[ | ]

These units will be doing the majority of the DPS.

  • They can fill 3 team slots in a 3DPS composition, and leave the last slot for 100004 01 r04 Cleo or 110059 01 r05 Grace.
  • They can also fill all 4 if two of the slots are taken up by 110335 01 r04 Patias if everyone is equipped with 400385 01 Odd Sparrows.
  • Alternatively, with a single Patia, they can also fill all 4 if planning to speedrun a clear within 2 minutes, skipping all unavoidable attacks by sheer DPS with a Patia focused on buffing with 210126 01 Azazel, or bogging on break with a bog-inflicting dragon such as 210017 01 Leviathan.

Don't bring more than one Ieyasu, two Patias, or all Gala Cleos in the whole composition, due to bleeding or buff zone stacking limits, exposing their relatively low personal DPS.

The list is split into two halves: one containing the "meta" DPS which are highly popular in public rooms due to their DPS and ease of use, the other containing other viable adventurers that are capable of clearing within 4 minutes, and may be considered for private rooms, or if extremely well-geared.

Meta DPS[ | ]

Adventurer Notes
Extremely high burst damage output, Affliction poison large icon Poison, tricky Icon Ability 1010031 Dispel, minor Defense Down Defense Down.
Extremely high constant damage output if paired with a Affliction poison large icon Poisoner.
Extremely high damage output at low HP and while in the Dragondrive state, and can Icon Ability 1010031 Dispel, can cover Supreme Spheres easily due to autotargeting nature of Renegade Dragonfall.
Very frequent Strength Up Strength Up and Defense Up Defense Up buffs, can add or help maintain Bleeding Bleeding uptime if needed.
Extremely high damage output at low HP.

Viable DPS[ | ]

Adventurer Notes
Very high constant damage output, very high critical rates and damage, strong Bleeding Bleeding, self-sustaining.
Very high force strike damage, can cover Supreme Spheres easily due to extremely long force strike reach, and can Icon Ability 1010031 Dispel.
Extremely high damage output, especially towards the mode gauge, minor Defense Down Defense Down, and can Affliction poison large icon Poison, and can still benefit from poison attempts even if they fail.
Extremely high damage output due to frequent shapeshifts versus the quest's duration, if paired with a Affliction poison large icon Poisoner.
Extremely high Strength Up Strength Up buff uptime and burst damage output, Defense Down Defense Down, can provide HP Recovery HP Regen healing, can cover Supreme Spheres easily due to autotargeting nature of Ancient Ray.
Very high damage output, can provide HP Recovery HP Regen healing.

Healer[ | ]

The healer keeps the team alive and provides support.

Adventurer Notes
Cleo has low personal DPS, but has high healing output, can Icon Ability 1010031 Dispel, provides Affliction paralysis large icon Paralysis relief, grants some defensive support, and can end up contributing somewhat in damage output with DPS dragons (taking advantage of her innate Icon Ability 1020002 Dragon's Claws IIIEach shapeshift increases strength for the remainder of the quest (up to three times per quest). On first shapeshift strength is increased by 8% in total. On second shapeshift strength is increased by 17% in total. On third shapeshift strength is increased by 32% in total. Benefits your whole team. with each shapeshift) or 210094 01 Pop-Star Siren's buffs.
Grace provides a very large Icon Buff 1020031 Life Shield which can protect adventurers from being afflicted and blocks knockback while the shield is not completely destroyed. Her Defense Up Defense Up buff is much higher, at 100%, but also lasts significantly shorter than Cleo's, making it more suitable for mitigating severe damage. Also Icon Ability 1010031 Dispels.

General Party Setup[ | ]

The general setup is a 3DPS setup. It is also possible to run a 4DPS setup with two 110335 01 r04 Patias if everyone is equipped with 400385 01 Odd Sparrows, or a speedrun setup with a single Patia focused on buffing or inflicting bog on a broken Kai Yan.

Composition
A sample 3DPS composition with Grace as the healer, which is highly suitable with adventurers that function best at low HP, such as Bellina and Veronica, and also works with general DPS.
  • Highly recommended for public co-op as this composition provides a lot of safety, as well as letting Bellina and Veronica perform optimally.
A sample 4DPS composition with two Patias (also known as a PPNG composition though now with different adventurers), relying on Icon Ability 1010011 Healing Doublebuff IIIGrants an HP regen buff healing you for 3% Max HP every 3.9 seconds for 20 seconds each time a defense up buff is received. on 400385 01 Odd Sparrows to provide healing, in conjunction with defense buffs. Produces a similar speed to healer Cleo composition.
  • Highly recommended for public co-op as this composition provides a lot of safety due to the generally high amounts of defense everyone have.
  • It is possible to replace one of the Patias with 100009 07 r05 Zena. 100004 10 r05 Gala Cleo cannot replace a Patia, and she goes into a normal DPS slot, as her regen is infrequent compared to Zena.
  • At least one adventurer must be able to dispel; it might be a good idea for Patias to carry a dispelling shared skill to improve safety.
  • Don't run adventurers that like staying at low HP with an Odd Sparrows dual-Patia composition as their damage output will suffer.
A sample 3DPS composition with Cleo as the healer, generally suitable for adventurers that prefer staying at high HP.
  • Don't run adventurers that like staying at low HP with Cleo or Gala Cleo(s) as their damage output will suffer.
A sample 4DPS composition with one Patia, having all DPS adventurers equip 400402 01 Brothers in Arms to maximize their DPS via the sheer amount of Strength Doublebuffs. Provides the fastest clear times, though has zero tolerance for mistakes.
  • It is possible to replace two of the Bellinas with different high-DPS adventurers.
  • At least one additional adventurer should carry Patia's shared skill, Icon Skill 031 Sparrow's GuardLv. 1: Increases the entire team's defense by 15% for 15 seconds. [4367 SP]

Lv. 2: Increases the entire team's defense by 20% for 15 seconds. [4367 SP]

Lv. 3: Increases the entire team's defense by 25% for 15 seconds. [4367 SP]

Lv. 4: Increases the entire team's strength by 15% and defense by 25% for 15 seconds. [4367 SP]
    .
  • This composition hinges on skipping or breaking all map-wide unavoidable attacks due to the lack of a life shield and the generally low HP everyone will be in. If this cannot be executed consistently with your current equipment or team setup, use a different composition.

Attacks and Patterns[ | ]

On Adamantine Shield[ | ]

Icon EnemyAbility 0020 Adamantine Shield is a buff that renders Kai Yan immune to afflictions, creates a barrier around him, and will regenerate the barrier if it is destroyed, provided the buff is still active.

  • Since this is a buff, it can be removed by a Icon Ability 1010031 Dispel effect. Doing so will also instantly remove the barrier if it is up.
  • If the barrier is hit by an adventurer, Kai Yan will take no damage, but the adventurer will receive a fixed 200 HP of damage in the Master difficulty.
  • The barrier can withstand 60 hits before breaking.
  • In the Master difficulty, every time Kai Yan produces a shield, he also produces an additional buff that has to be dispelled first.

Hence, at least two adventurers should be able to dispel ideally. Innate dispels are strongly preferred, but any adventurer can borrow 100003 01 r04 Ranzal's Icon Skill 004 Tornado BashLv. 1: Deals 4 hits of 468% wind damage to surrounding enemies and draws them toward the user for 0.5 seconds. if it's at level 4; it provides a skill-based dispel that works anywhere on anyone, with a very low skill cost of 3 points.

The two healers have different dispel speeds and requirements.

  • Cleo requires the use of Icon Skill 029 Elder CureLv. 1: Restores HP to all allies with 72% Recovery Potency, and increases the entire team's strength by 8% for 60 seconds. This strength increase will not stack. [5916 SP]

[8534 SP]

Lv. 2: Increases the entire team's defense by 20% for 15 seconds. [8534 SP]

, and she can maintain the regen indefinitely with sufficient amounts of Buff Time boosts.
  • Grace does not require any pre-setup, but her force strike charges at a glacial pace, making pre-loading dispels tricky in high-intensity situations, as you tend to need to dispel twice in a row.

On Battleground[ | ]

Icon EnemyAbility 0019 Battleground is a special effect that creates a field around the enemy. Enemies in this zone will take 2x damage, while adventurers will take 1.5x damage.

All adventurers should stay within the Battleground area to maximize DPS. No unavoidable attack from Kai Yan will one-shot any adventurer that is properly following gameplay instructions from full HP even if you're within the Battleground area, so don't worry too much about it under most circumstances.

Note: This is based on a run that can last about 5-6 minutes, suitable as a ballpark range for a newcomer clear. Some moves may be skipped or shortened if teamwide DPS is higher.

Opening Blast[ | ]

This is the fight's initial "HP check" blast.

  • Most adventurers should stay put to reduce the damage taken, but adventurers that have their DPS improve at low HP should immediately get close to Kai Yan so that they take increased damage from the opening blast.
  • 100004 01 r04 Cleo should use Icon Skill 031 Ancient AegisLv. 1: Increases the entire team's defense by 15% for 15 seconds. [8534 SP]

Lv. 2: Increases the entire team's defense by 20% for 15 seconds. [8534 SP]

Lv. 3: Increases the entire team's defense by 25% for 15 seconds, and gradually recovers their HP for 15 seconds, healing with 35% Recovery Potency every 2.9 seconds. [8534 SP]
    to reduce the damage taken.
  • 110059 01 r05 Grace with two sources of Icon Ability 1010007 Skill Prep +50%Fills 50% of skill gauges at the start of quests. equipped from wyrmprints should use Icon Skill 097 Sorrow's RequiemLv. 1: If the user's HP is below 40% of max HP when using this skill, increases the entire team's defense by 20% for 15 seconds.

If the user's HP is above or equal to 40% of max HP, reduces their HP to 30% of max HP and grants the entire team a "Life Shield" that nullifies damage equal to the amount of HP lost by the user when using this skill. This shield can stack with ordinary shields. This Life Shield caps at 70% of the user's max HP. [5916 SP]

Lv. 2: If the user's HP is below 40% of max HP when using this skill, increases the entire team's defense by 25% for 15 seconds.

to grant everyone a Icon Buff 1020031 Life Shield to mitigate the damage entirely.
    • If the composition is composed entirely of either 110306 01 r05 Bellinas or 110333 01 r05 Veronicas, Grace can opt to not life shield anyone until the opening blast hits, to increase their DPS, at the expense of some initial life shield HP. Furthermore, 110333 01 r05 Veronica cannot drop herself to 30% HP to trigger Last Destruction after this point since life shields are expected to remain in play for the remainder of the quest.
  • Afterwards, in a non-low HP composition, if possible, heal it back up ASAP to restore HP conditional abilities. Ancient Aegis will provide HP Recovery HP Regen healing, but one may opt to run other skills to make it go a bit faster.

Afterwards, DPS adventurers should move towards Kai Yan.

Charge[ | ]

Kai Yan will charge towards the unit at the farthest distance. The healer should bait this, and all adventurers should roll towards Kai Yan's destination, or iframe it with a skill.

Claw Swipes[ | ]

Kai Yan will perform four (sometimes two, if DPS is very high) claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.

  • Kai Yan will retarget on the closest adventurer at the time of the third swipe.
  • The blind zone varies with each swipe.

Mini Universal Annihilation[ | ]

Purple marker attack covering the Battleground. Leave the Battleground area.

  • 110306 01 r05 Bellina (with any dragon with dragondrive, with 210115 01 Andromeda if out of dragondrive) and 110333 01 r05 Veronica (if equipped with 210115 01 Andromeda), and anyone with 110335 01 r04 Patia's stacked defense buffs can stay within the Battleground and continue DPSing as normal if they're in dragondrive (applicable to Bellina only, if the equipped dragon is not Andromeda) and their life shields are at least 75% full.

Adamantine Shield[ | ]

Kai Yan will spawn two purple markers, covering the entire arena. Neither marker inflicts damage, but they carry severe debuff effects.

  • The inner area, within the Battleground, inflicts Strength Down -50% to everyone within the area.
  • The outer area, outside the Battleground, inflicts Skill Suppression, emptying out all skill gauges while it lasts.

Generally, it is a good idea to stay within the Battleground as Strength Down is a minor inconvenience, while Skill Suppression can cause severe issues.

An Adamantine Shield will spawn along with a Strength buff once the markers hit. Icon Ability 1010031 Dispel both of them ASAP.

  • 100005 02 r05 Gala Alexes will have to wait for the buff icon to show up before attempting to dispel. Other dispellers may preload their dispels.

Satellite Chasers[ | ]

4 purple chaser markers spawn that track each adventurer, inflicting damage on hit, and also leaves a satellite on the ground for the rest of the quest that also inflicts damage on contact.

All adventurers should spread out, go towards the edge of the map, outside the Battleground. Avoid overlapping, and immediately roll inwards towards Kai Yan, back into the Battleground, once the attack hits.

  • Avoid placing these satellites along the top edge of the map - that's where Kai Yan throws adventurers to. If there are satellites there, these adventurers will take damage twice.
  • Note that the healer should not roll into the Battleground - they should simply make sure they aren't in contact with any other satellite, and stay far away from Kai Yan, in preparation for the next attack.
  • DPS adventurers that aren't 110306 01 r05 Bellina might want to save their skills in preparation for the next attack.

Crushing Cataclysm[ | ]

Kai Yan will grab the farthest adventurer, determined at the time when Kai Yan starts walking towards the center of the map, and trap them. If the purple marker fills up, everyone caught up in the area will take lethal damage that cannot be mitigated.

  • The healer should try to bait this, otherwise the DPS check is extremely tough.

Supreme Spheres[ | ]

Kai Yan will spawn six Supreme Spheres that slowly move towards Kai Yan. If they make contact towards Kai Yan, they grant Kai Yan buffs, and also give him Adamantine Shield.

  • The healer should get close to Kai Yan and be prepared to bait Kai Yan's charges towards the lower-left.
  • DPS adventurers should immediately destroy the lower-left sphere so that the path is clear for baiting.
  • DPS adventurers should not stand too close to Kai Yan to avoid stealing bait.

Kai Yan will charge towards the nearest adventurer four times in a row. While the healer is busy baiting Kai Yan, the other DPSes should destroy the spheres ASAP.

Unbreakable Satellites[ | ]

Kai Yan will spawn a purple ring outside the Battleground area, creating many Unbreakable Satellites which inflict Affliction blindness large icon Blindness on contact. Stay inside the Battleground area.

Universal Annihilation (Stack Version)[ | ]

Unavoidable map-wide attack. The marker within the Battleground area is a stack marker, and the damage dealt if everyone is within the stack marker is significantly reduced compared to being outside of it. Unbreakable Satellites will also respawn.

Kai Yan will also immediately spawn an Adamantine Shield and a Strength Up buff. Dispel them ASAP.

  • If shapeshift is available and you are not using 210123 01 Fatalis, shapeshift now and dragon tank the attack.
  • Otherwise, stay within the Battleground area, and if possible, use defense buffs to reduce the oncoming damage.

Mini Universal Annihilation[ | ]

Purple marker attack covering the Battleground. Unbreakable Satellites will also respawn.

If shapeshift is available and you are not using 210123 01 Fatalis, shapeshift now and dragon tank the attack. Otherwise, leave the Battleground area.

  • Make sure to not accidentally hit an Unbreakable Satellite; move along their path! There should be two gaps where you can move safely in.

Claw Swipes[ | ]

Kai Yan will perform three claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.

  • Unlike other instances, he will perform a third swipe, indicated by a "!!" on his head. This time, as it is a purple marker attack, the attack zone is now marked.
    • The blind zone in this case is the front area of him.

Throw Adventurer[ | ]

Kai Yan picks up the furthest adventurer and throws them away, causing unavoidable damage to the adventurer, and also avoidable damage to anyone caught in the path. There's nothing the targeted adventurer can do, but others should try to avoid being hit.

Crushing Cataclysm[ | ]

Sometimes, this instance of Crushing Cataclysm may not have an attackable weak point due to a game bug. If this happens, abandon the trapped adventurer, as losing one adventurer is highly preferable to wiping out here, at a point very close to victory.
